Internet of Things devices are incredibly useful to the home, but how do we convey their functionality when their core features are hidden behind opaque walls? Well, just make the walls transparent! The Target Open House concept store in San Francisco, was designed to both educate and guide customers to get deeper insights into IOT devices' functioning.
Many interactive projects are hampered by a very limited budget, but still want to deliver an stunning end-visitor experience. Thanks to a very creative approach from the motion graphics team at Local Projects we took the bold decision to use Adobe AfterEffects to create the magic of interactivity on what would otherwise just be linear media.
Thanks to keyframe triggers, and content dynamically loaded via out-of-band JSON payloads, we were able to emulate an interactive experience. We were able to leverage the best of all worlds, by triggering devices using background APIs and simultaneously triggering the rendered content through After Effects hooks.
Thanks to the success of this approach, I temporarily managed the Motion Graphics team, to explore more opportunities to leverage motion tools for real-time interactives.
